We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Advisor to join the New Zealand Customs Border Operations Group.
The Border Operations group is the largest of the operational groups within Customs. This group is responsible for all Airport, Cargo, Mail and some Port activities nationwide and for most of the public it is the face of Customs. Its purpose is to facilitate the legitimate process of international travel and trade while protecting the border from risk goods and people.

The Senior Advisor will support the Group Manager, Border Operations in their strategic leadership of the Border Operations Group and will be an active member of the Border Operations Leadership Team.
Using their broad experience and understanding of policy and operational issues the Senior Advisor will provide high quality, effective advice and judgement. Additionally, the Senior Advisor will contribute to the successful delivery of cross-government initiatives, actively monitor and follow up on required actions on behalf of the Group Manager, and represent the Group Manager's views when required.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate political awareness, is able to build and sustain credibility and trust with senior managers, strong interpersonal and communications skills, and displays strength in achieving timely results and outcomes.
This is a senior position and we are looking for someone who can demonstrate experience in strategic thinking, developing and implementing strategies. You will lead and facilitate strategic discussions within the organisation as well as work collaboratively with other agencies and stakeholders.
Being skilled at understanding and analysing strategic information (both financial and non
- financial), and the ability to communicate complex information to wide ranging audiences at all levels will ensure you are able to engage confidently across a wide range of issues. As a self-starter you will be adept at anticipating possible issues, take an idea and run with it, and be comfortable at 'working in the grey'.
A security clearance to 'Secret' level may be required for this position.
The salary for the position is $114,481 to $154,885. Mid-point or competent for the range is $134,683.
