This is a unique and newly created role for our organisation, designed with scope to make meaningful strategic contributions to Council operations. We are on an exciting journey with our Council operations as we look at new ways to maximise the benefit and return to the community of Council owned assets and facilities.

As a pivotal member of our Councils Leadership team, you will provide technical expertise, act as a thought leader, and assume the role of a trusted advisor to our Executive team. You will provide expert legal guidance, ensure compliance, and identify and support the pursuit of increased commercialisation.

**About the Role**:
You can expect this role to evolve as you partner with our leaders, determining their priorities, identify areas for continuous improvement and opportunities to contribute your expertise to our strategic priorities. This role will be suited to someone who is looking for a healthy mix of strategic and operational delivery.

You can expect your day to day to include:

- **Legal Expertise**: Your expertise will aid in safeguarding our organization by mitigating legal, commercial, and reputational risks while fostering transparency and accountability.
- **Compliance Leadership**: Through strategic oversight, you will build a culture of legal compliance and enhance capability across all departments.
- **Risk Management**: Drive continuous improvement and implement robust risk management systems.
- **Case Management**: Prepare and support legal cases, keen legal analysis and strategic guidance will ensure the best possible outcomes for our organization.

**What You’ll Bring**:

- A qualification as and proven experience as a solicitor with a current NZ practicing certificate.
- Demonstrated experience in providing high-quality legal advice and support in a complex organizational environment.
- Strong understanding of legislative requirements, corporate governance frameworks, and risk management principles.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal issues to non-legal colleagues.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Commitment to continuous learning and development in the legal field.
