**Your new role**
As a Principal Engineer, you will focus on uplifting Test Automation across the Engineering Practice covering different technology stacks and squads at ASB. You will work closely with the Chapter Leads/Engineers within the Testing Chapter to develop and execute on effective test strategies that help our squads deliver high quality changes to our customers at pace. You will be an evangelist for Test Automation across Platforms/Tribes and take our ~65 test engineers on the automation journey.

You'll have the opportunity to get hands-on with some interesting and complex pieces of work that integrate on an enterprise scale, all while being part of a tight autonomous multi-disciplinary team of uber-talented Principal Engineers that drive engineering excellence across the organisation.

In this role you will:

- Establish and review Test Automation strategy, roadmaps, and best practice pan-bank
- Drive adoption of future-fit test automation tooling from ideation to implementation, whilst simplifying our tooling estate through standardisation
- Drive and establish reusable assets e.g. test automation frameworks and provide actionable technical guidance to test engineers on adopting and extending the assets
- Hands-on working with test engineers on test automation implementation to get teams off the ground
- Winning the hearts and minds of engineers while taking them on a transformation journey

You will work collaboratively with other leaders across Technology and stakeholders to be the voice of Engineering particularly on Test Automation and enable our teams to deliver products that delight out customers at pace.

We are looking for someone who has:

- Proven hands-on engineering experience in test automation across the stack i.e. backend, frontend, integration across different tiers of modern software architecture
- Proven experience in driving and embedding Test Automation in an enterprise scale environment
- Deep knowledge of modern software testing practices and techniques from test strategy all the way to leveraging the right tools to deliver business value
- Soft skills to evangelise, get squads on-board and execute on the envisioned strategy
- Grit and determination to deliver incremental change in a regulated environment
- Good understanding of software engineering across the full SDLC
- Collaborative leadership style and an ability to take people on the journey
- A mindset of learning, rapid experimentation and innovation
- Natural risk identification and mitigation lens that does not slow progress
