This pivotal role places you at the heart of communicating the policies and initiatives of the Government to the New Zealand public. It is unique and rewarding work, in a high impact and genuinely fast-paced environment.

As Press Secretary to Hon Tama Potaka, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping how the Government’s priorities are communicated to the public. This high-impact position offers a fast-paced, dynamic environment where your strategic insight and media expertise will directly influence national conversations. This is an events-based position based on a 3-year parliamentary term. The likely appointment range for this role is $111,000 - 138,000.

**Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role**:

- You will be an experienced political operator with a significant background in media, communications and/or public relations with experience relevant to the portfolios under Minister Potaka
- You will have an awareness of and the ability to work in te ao Māori environments as well as an understanding of what it means to build meaningful and effective Māori Crown relationships under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, The Treaty of Waitangi
- Te Reo Māori fluency is preferred
- A skilled strategist, you will be adept at both anticipating a story before it happens and creating the narrative
- Your new role will require you to understand a range of complex material, with an eye for detail and the ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences, through a broad range of channels
- With a highly attuned awareness of both the media and the political landscape, you will be social media savvy and confident in writing speeches and press releases
- In this highly relational environment, your advanced interpersonal skills will set you up for success, building the confidence of the Minister, your wider team, coalition partners, Māori Organisations and the general public.
