Offender Employment (OE) is all about giving prisoners the opportunity to gain skills and work experience to increase their chances of obtaining employment after release.

Farm Instructors are involved in all aspects of the day to day running of the property, assisted by work parties of tane from within the prison. It is a diverse role involving custodial responsibilities, industry based responsibilities and training responsibilities.

While working on the farms, prisoners work towards a level two certificate in agriculture (dairy farming thread) through the Primary ITO.

Instructors are expected to hold, or to be willing to gain, unit standard 4098 in adult education, or equivalent.

Farm Instructors work a 10 hour day on a 5 days on 3 days off roster (50 hours over 5 days), reporting to a Principal Instructor. Working Public Holidays with the possibility of some overtime or call-outs may be required.

Instructors have the same classification as Corrections Officers and, as such, complete the same initial 11 week training course. This will involve on-site training as well as residential training at our National Learning Centre in Upper Hutt, Wellington, to focus on the custodial elements of the position.

**Utu ā-tau | Salary**

The starting salary for the Dairy Instructor role is $67,460. Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.
