About the Role

Are you a passionate health professional ready to make a real impact in your community?

We're looking for an experienced, registered health professional to join our warm, supportive, and collaborative multidisciplinary team, providing mental health and addiction services to our service users/tangata whaiora.

This full-time role is based in our community mental health and addiction team, where you'll bring your expertise in mental health, case management, clinical assessment, and treatment interventions to support individuals on their recovery journey — helping them achieve meaningful and lasting health and wellbeing outcomes

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our team work with adults who have a severe mental health illness, including new or expecting mothers, and offer specialist alcohol and other drug service.

Health NZ/Te Whatu Ora Whanganui Community Mental Health and Addiction Services have a multidisciplinary team (MDT) of health professionals who work together with the service user and their family to ensure they receive integrated care to help with their recovery and discharge.

Our team work in partnership with Te Oranganui Iwi services who have kaumātua and kuia available to provide cultural support to patients/service users/tangata whaiora and their whānau, if required.

About you

We're on the lookout for a skilled and compassionate professional to join us in delivering high-quality care and support in our mental health and addiction services. If you're looking for a role where your clinical experience, therapeutic skills, and cultural awareness are truly valued — this could be the perfect fit.

What you'll need to succeed in this role:

- A relevant tertiary qualification, NZ registration with a professional body, and a current Annual Practising Certificate.
- Strong clinical knowledge in mental health disorders, psychiatric and addiction medications, and managing risk with confidence.
- A postgraduate qualification in a therapy field — or the willingness to work towards one — so you can deliver therapeutic, person-centred, recovery-focused interventions.
- Hands-on experience with therapeutic approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy or solution-focused therapy.
- At least 3 years' experience managing a caseload, identifying co-existing issues, and delivering both clinical and psychosocial care in community settings.
- Proven experience working in adult addiction and co-existing mental health challenges.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, empathy, cultural awareness, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities.
- Good computer skills (especially in Microsoft Word), the ability to pick up new systems quickly, a clean police record, and a current full NZ driver's licence.
