Antarctica New Zealand is redeveloping Scott Base, to support New Zealand’s enduring presence in Antarctica and the Ross Sea for the next 50 years. The new base will continue to facilitate world-leading science and better support local and deep-field science with improved efficiencies. Not surprisingly, construction in Antarctica is not straight forward, and the safety of people and the protection of the environment are paramount.

**The role**:
In this fixed-term role of approximately six months, you will provide commercial management and commercial oversight of planning, design, construction and commissioning contracts, to assist with the successful delivery of the Project. Working collaboratively with the Project Team, you will proactively manage contract risk and issues, including those in the financial, technical or schedule areas.

Key responsibilities include:

- Ensure all activities are aligned with Antarctica New Zealand Health, Safety and Environmental Management systems and are sustained by a strong safety culture with a focus on prevention of harm
- Develop, negotiate and implement contracts for a range of services provided to the Client (Antarctica New Zealand)
- Ensure supplier contractual responsibilities are met, with the assistance of third-party quantity surveyor
- Lead procurement activities for Antarctica New Zealand related contracts, aligned with MBIE guidelines

**What will you bring?**
- Relevant specialist tertiary qualification
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the contract management in engineering and construction industry or heavy industrial sectors
- Professional but personable manner and a positive, solution focused attitude
- Experience in the commercial and legal issues impacting business and the delivery of projects
- Demonstrated understanding of contract terms and conditions
- Ideally, available to start at short notice.
