The institutions of Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara and the National Library Te Puna Mātauranga are places where communities, history and knowledge meet. As Manager Community Engagement, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for a team delivering a broad and dynamic programme of public engagement, outreach, exhibitions, events, education and philanthropic initiatives.

You’ll be responsible for growing community capability, delivering national and regional programmes, and helping ensure our spaces and services are welcoming and inclusive. This role combines big-picture thinking with hands-on programme delivery, and is key to the visibility, relevance and reach of both institutions.

**What we’re looking for**

We’re seeking an experienced people leader who brings:

- Proven leadership experience in a public programming, community engagement, or cultural heritage setting
- A strong background in designing and delivering audience-focused exhibitions, events and learning experiences
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams in a creative or engagement environment
- Deep understanding of working with iwi, Māori and diverse communities, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, philanthropic relationships and multi-agency collaboration
- A strategic mindset and practical project delivery skills
- The ability to manage public spaces and high-profile visitor experiences

You will be confident leading outreach and engagement across a wide range of audiences and platforms, and excited by the challenge of continuously improving the way we connect people to our collections and kaupapa.
