**Mō te tūnga | About the role**
Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) in Christchurch, New Zealand are seeking expressions of interest from qualified Anatomical Pathologists to join our laboratory at Christchurch Hospital.
This is a full-time permanent role working alongside twenty other Consultant Anatomical Pathologists, supported by a skilled team of laboratory scientists, administrative support, and seven registrars. The department has an internationally diverse workforce including multiple oversea graduates/trained pathologists whom have made New Zealand their home.
The department receives a wide range of specimens from all subspecialty areas, and provides histology and cytology services across Canterbury and the West Coast regions, as well as a tertiary referral service and multidisciplinary team support for the South Island more broadly.
Pathologists have access to a wide range of IHC stains, diagnostic molecular pathology (NGS and FISH), and surface marker flow cytometry techniques within the laboratory.
The AP Department is based in the University of Otago - School of Medicine and actively supports training of medical students. Some pathologists hold joint academic roles with options to pursue research interests.
Preference will be given to applicants with a broad general pathology background, but an interest in any of the following areas would be viewed favourably: dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, or non-gynaecological cytology.
Participation will be required within an On-Call service, shared across the consultant team.
There is no requirement of this role to complete hospital post-mortems.
Generous relocation support is provided for moving to and settling in New Zealand, as is support for immigration processes and medical council registration.
Work related expenses which are paid by the employer include the Annual Practising Certificate, Medical Protection Society membership and college membership.
Continuing medical education (CME) support is provided through an allocation of 10 working days CME leave, and reimbursed expenses up to $16,000 (NZD) annually, which may be accumulated for three years up to a total of $48,000. This money can be used to cover flights, accommodation and registration fees to attend conferences, or can be used to purchase items to support CME such as laptops, textbooks and mobile phones.
