**Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role**

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Intellectual Disability service and work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team in the secure inpatient service. The social worker will provide effective, quality social work services to clients and to actively participate in the multidisciplinary team, role model professional, ethical, education and preceptorship behaviours. This role is also effective in the implementation of the service model of care and providing key linkage with family/whanau, community networks for clients who have come from all over New Zealand.

The team are dynamic and enthusiastic with a passion in providing quality of life services to people who would otherwise not have the opportunity. The Intellectual Disability Forensic Service has adult, youth and community services and is part of the Mental Health Addictions and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS).

Located on the Ratonga Rua-o-Porirua and Kenepuru Hospital campus in Porirua the Intellectual Disability Inpatient Service has four units:

- Haumietiketike - a regional intellectual disability adult secure forensic unit which has eleven beds.
- The Cottages - a step down unit of eight adult beds
- Manawai - the National Individualised Service Unit is a new national unit with six beds for people with intellectual Disability and/or mental health disorders.
- Hikitia Te Wairua - is the national intellectual disability secure forensic youth unit which has six beds. Hikitia Te Wairua is co-located with the Youth Acute Inpatient Mental Health Inpatient Unit and the National Secure Youth Forensic Unit in a Centre of Excellence for Youth Services located at Kenepuru Hospital, Porirua.

We have a Model of Care which incorporates all the features of current best practice within forensic secure services including Positive Behaviour Support, nuanced risk assessment, and psychological formulation. All staff receive training on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) as this is the basis for our philosophy of care within the service.

**Moū ' About you**

**Duties**:

- The position is a clinical role and will assist clients and their whanau to achieve optimal health, well-being and safety through provision of appropriate assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and education
- The Social Worker is vital to the running of the service as the key focus of the role is working in collaboration with the client and their family/whanau, to strengthen networks within the community
- You will work closely with community agencies to achieve the outcomes agreed by the care team and multidisciplinary process
- You will have a key role in working with family/whanau

Skills and experience:

- Registered Social Worker who has skills and expertise in working with people with intellectual disabilities and mental health diagnosis and their families/whanau
- The ideal applicant will have experience working in secure intellectual disability and mental health services and across into the community
- You will have proven experience working with multi-disciplinary teams and working with families/whanau
- You will be a Registered Social Worker with the Social Workers Registration Board New Zealand, and have an up-to-date annual practicing certificate
