Rates Officer

Our Rates Team is set up to assess and collect rates, which is an integral part of the Council's income stream to support the daily operation and ongoing rejuvenation of our city. With one of the highest volumes of ratepayers in the country, we are a busy high functioning team who wear many hats when it comes to delivering best practice for our customers.
We are now looking for a Rates Officer to join our team. The role includes responding to enquiries and setting up direct debit authorities, as well as working with customers to collect arrears and work out payment plans. This is a multi-faceted role with a lot of variety and you will ensure that all rates duties are performed to high standard. Having strict deadlines means you will be goal orientated. This role would suit someone who has excellent written and verbal communication skills, and data entry experience.
As the role involves working closely with customers to achieve good outcomes you will be someone who is empathetic and can take a fair and consistent approach. We are working in a high volume capacity and at times are under a lot of time pressure.
The rates area is a regulated environment so previous exposure to interpreting policies, regulations or legislation would be advantageous. We have a very solid team who work well together and are always thinking outside the square - this is a great opportunity to join our team.
