This is a unique role in New Zealand government, where your work will contribute to the success of our primary sector by ensuring that MPI is a trusted and effective regulator.
- Report to the Inspector General Regulatory Systems (IGRS) who reports directly to MPI's Director-General.
- Provide thought leadership to MPI's Senior Leadership team on regulatory risk and pivotal elements of regulatory stewardship.

Mōu - About You
We seek someone with analytical ability to think critically about the complex regulatory systems that support the Primary Sector, and, using a combination of qualitative and quantitative techniques, will shine a light on aspects that MPI may not have previously considered. Highly valued traits for this role will be curiosity and pragmatism. The right person will have an ambition to find opportunities for system change to secure better outcomes for New Zealand's Primary Sector.
A key requirement of this role will be to clearly communicate with and influence senior management without necessarily having the mandate. You will do this by being able to grasp complex concepts, and to connect up matters to provide insights that have previously been identified, and to explain them clearly and competently. You will be an expert relationship developer, in a team that will support you to develop in your career.
- An ability to research and describe complex regulatory concepts, and translate these into easily understood, unambiguous, relevant, and relatable information (both written and orally), illustrating how they contribute to improving New Zealand's primary sector regulatory system.
- The ability to function independently and as part of a team to ensure timely delivery.
- An outcomes focus, with the ability to influence confidently at a senior level.

This is a small and respected team that directly advises the Director-General on the health of MPI's regulatory systems. It sits within MPI but outside its business units. This team prides itself on its collaborative teamwork and empowering environment where the whole team owns every outcome.
