Are you an experienced Policy Advisor, with an interest in the data and digital policy space? We're seeking an innovative and future focussed Principal Policy Advisor to join a leading government organisation's team.

Please note this is a one-year fixed term opportunity.

**Key responsibilities**:

- develop and deliver policies and legislation on emerging issues in the data and digital policy space - ensuring that the organisation can adapt to the digital era and meet customer needs
- provide strategic policy advice to support senior leaders
- work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to foster trust and confidence in how data is used, and ensure adequate safeguards are in place to uphold public trust and protect personal data
- work to build an inclusive government data system that reflects Te ao Māori views and is designed, collected, and analysed in partnership with Māori in accordance with Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.

**Skills and experience**:

- extensive experience in policy development and analysis, with experience in data or digital fields being advantageous
- strong understanding of government processes and regulations, including the machinery of government
- experience in engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Māori, iwi, and hapū partners
- ability to think strategically, analytically, and conceptually within complex environments
- excellent written and verbal communication
- commitment to diversity and inclusion.
