Our Gen Re New Zealand Property Facultative team is seeking to appoint a **Property Underwriter** (5+ years) in our **Auckland** office. This position requires Property Underwriting skills, will report to the Property Facultative Country Manager and will work very closely with the wider Property Fac team.

Your Role

As a Property Underwriter you will be responsible for underwriting and pricing non proportional property facultative business, marketing existing client contacts, sourcing new client contacts, and sourcing new business.

Role Description

**Underwriting**:

- Underwrite non-proportional reinsurance for both individual risks and Online Placement Facilities, with adherence to departmental underwriting philosophy and rules and guidelines.
- Understand and demonstrate knowledge of standard risk coverages, contracts, policy forms, and terms and conditions.
- Ability to assess risk hazards and exposure, understanding the relationship between the Company risk appetite and the purchasing of reinsurance coverage.
- Understand and use the various underwriting tools, rating tools and pricing methodologies in addition to utilizing technical referrals for calculating accurate technical premiums as appropriate.
- Provide concise and clear documentation, effectively highlighting the underwriting thought process.
- Lead and participate in various underwriting activities, branch audits and complex business unit projects.

**Client Service**:

- Navigate client markets and segmentations around New Zealand, and influence clients at both the underwriter and management levels.
- Develop, maintain, and grow relationships within our existing client base as well as new client development.
- Understand market pricing and market terms and conditions as well as demonstrate awareness of broader industry issues and trends.
- Generate and service both individual risk as well as Program/Online Placement opportunities.
- Collaborate jointly with Facultative and Treaty teammates to provide holistic product solutions on behalf of Gen Re as an organization.
- Bring an array of solutions, alternatives and options to clients based on their reinsurance needs whilst not compromising technical pricing or exceeding capacity guidelines.
- Directly communicate and negotiate reinsurance terms and pricing to clients.
- Travel is New Zealand wide.

Role Qualifications and Experience
- 5+ years minimum industry experience, commercial and some corporate property underwriting experience is essential
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Strong organizational ability and attention to detail
- Demonstrate ability to work independently and deal effectively with multiple tasks/priorities
- Strong team player, with the ability to collaborate effectively across various internal business units
- Strong client relationship, influencing and interpersonal skills
- High degree of energy/tenacity
- Willingness to learn
- Capacity to work remotely occasionally
