Shepherd General

Kerikeri, New Zealand Pamu Full time

If you are passionate about working with dogs, animal welfare, and being a part of a good team, this Shepherd General role could be your next career move.

Located just 10 km north of Kerikeri, Kapiro Station is a 2,000 effective ha farm in the beautiful Bay of Islands. There is a diverse mix here which includes the 550 cow Rangitane Angus Genetics Breeding programme along with Pāmu’s hair sheep progeny trial. We also run Dairy support to the neighbouring dairy unit, growing out replacements and summer/winter cow grazing.

As a Shepherd General, you will enjoy variety and will work in a team of seven reporting through to the Stock Manager. We would like for you to have true enthusiasm for the agricultural sector, experience working with stock and animal health, and a desire to develop your skills. As a genetics property, there are requirements for record-keeping, and you will be responsible for providing accurate farm tallies to the Stock Manager.

You will spend about 90% of your time working with stock - and there will be a lot of variety in that work due to the various programmes we have here. An ideal team member will be flexible, have good communication skills, a strong work ethic and internal motivation to learn as well as contribute positively to the team. Ideally you have some good working dogs.

The Farm Manager and Stock Manager are both committed to supporting and developing staff and they are happy to train the right person.

We have a favourable roster that allows for three weekends off a month (except during lambing/calving when you will have two weekends off per month). With this kind of work-life balance, you will be able to fish, hunt, and generally enjoy everything that the Bay of Islands has to offer.

The role comes with a freshly renovated four-bedroom home with a garage and a shed. School buses go right past the gate.

We have a strong commitment to Health & Safety at Pāmu. You will work with well-maintained gear and will be provided with PPE and wet weather gear.

This position is a great stepping stone if you are keen to develop your career in a supportive environment. For a chat about the role, please contact John Hallgarth - Farm Manager on 027 545 0783.

Applications close on Wednesday 9 February.

Pāmu provides a safe workplace and the successful applicant will be required to pass a drug and alcohol test and undergo a criminal background check prior to being appointed.

**_To be eligible for this role, you must be available for an in-person interview and have unrestricted legal rights to work in New Zealand._**
