**About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga**

This is a full-time, fixed term or secondment opportunity, parental leave position from 20 January based at our Masterton office, supporting learners in the Wairarapa.

As an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by:

- Providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework He Pikorua guiding principles, strands, and goals of Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo.
- Building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support children’s’ learning such as parents, teachers and whānau | families.
- Understanding the families’ needs, collaboratively planning, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of intervention plans.
- Supporting transition points in the child’s learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood education and to school as required.
- Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.

**About you | Mōhou ake**

To be successful, you will need:

- A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood).
- A post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching, Early Intervention endorsed, is preferable
- A minimum of three years teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
- An understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes.
- The ability to develop and interact effectively with people of other cultures focusing on relationship and recognising their identity, language, and culture as a source of strength.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with ākonga | learners, whānau | families and kaiako | teachers across a diverse range of settings.
- A full current driver's licence is essential. Travel across the Wairarapa area is a requirement of the role.
- The ability to work collaboratively within an integrated team based at our Masterton office.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

**About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake**

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te Mahau | Te Tai Runga Group in the Ministry. We ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education. Our Learning Support specialists work closely with families, whānau, caregivers, schools and early childhood educators in English and Māori medium settings and other agencies to help maximise learning outcomes and promote social inclusion.

We have much to offer in our small community. Masterton is approximately 100 kilometres northeast of Wellington, and close to the picturesque rural townships of Carterton, Greytown and Featherston, which have charming boutiques shops and cafes, and Martinborough is home to several wineries. If you enjoy outdoor activities the Remutaka rail trail has a spectacular walking and mountain bike trail, and Queen Elizabeth Park located in the centre of Masterton is a tranquil place to visit.
