**GENERAL**
The Student Services Division provides high quality integrated services that foster engagement, promote wellbeing and support students in achieving their academic goals and includes the Sport and Wellbeing group.

The Sport and Wellbeing Group develop, promote and manage high quality, relevant sport and wellbeing programmes and facilities that support students, staff and the wider community to be active and healthy and to enhance the University of Waikato experience.

The Social Sport Series was established in 2008, and has fast become the largest organised social sport league in Hamilton. The Indoor Series runs from March - November, and is made up of netball, basketball and indoor soccer leagues. Social Sport futsal is run on Sundays between 12-9pm. Referees will generally be rostered on every 2nd week. As it is a casual role this can change in the event of covering or shift changes.

**2. POSITION PURPOSE**
The key focus for the Social Sport Series is to provide affordable and accessible opportunities for our community to be active and have fun with family, friends and colleagues. The Social Sport Referee is responsible for the running and officiating of assigned league/s, and ensuring games run smoothly in order to maximise participation, enjoyment and improve wellbeing.

**3. ACCOUNTABILITY**.

The Social Sport Futsal referee is responsible to the Sport and Events Coordinator.

**4. FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
**Internal: Associate Director, Sport and Wellbeing

Social Sport Co-ordinator, Sport, Clubs and Events team

External: Members of Public/ Community

**5. KEY TASKS
**5.1 Refereeing tasks:

- Setting up the necessary equipment prior to the commencement of the first game, and putting equipment away at the end of the day. You are required to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the first game in order to complete the above.
- Ensure that equipment and play-space is kept tidy and keys are put away at all times.
- Referee in a professional and unbiased manner, and use the scorecard provided.
- Appropriately handle any disagreement between players, and if required ask for assistance from other staff.

5.2 Communication:

- Attend any meetings / training sessions scheduled by the Social Sport Coordinator or Uni Rec Management
- Communicate with the Social Sport Coordinator when necessary
- On the first day of the sport league, brief the players on what is required of them, and some of the important rules, remembering that it is a social league.
- Communicate information to the teams prior to the start of their games eg, prize draw information, up coming events etc
- Any damage to equipment is recorded or reported to the Social Sport Coordinator

5.3 Presentation:

- Referee shirts are worn, whistles and other equipment required to referee is brought along by the referee.
- Clear / clean the playing area (sports hall)

5.4 Health and Safety:

- Footwear and clothing is checked to ensure it meets game rules and safety requirements.
- Deal with any incidents and fill out an incident form if necessary.
- Potential safety hazards are identified and eliminated if possible.
- Participate in the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment for self and others including students. Comply with and undertake responsibilities set out in the University’s Health and Safety Policy.

Any other duties as required that are consistent with the position held, other than in exceptional circumstances such as rehabilitation after injury or sickness.

**6. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS**
The Social Sport Futsal Referee will be performing satisfactorily when:

- All games are refereed in an professional and unbiased manner
- All results are recorded
- When all teams are happy and enjoying the competition
- When the competition is organised, professional, and fun
- Safe and healthy work practices are followed that comply with University policies and procedures, relevant work standards and statutory obligations.

**PERSON SPECIFICATION**

**TRAINING, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
**Essential**:

- Experience refereeing Futsal
- Sound knowledge of Futsal rules
- Double vaccinated with a valid My Vaccine Pass

**Preferred**:

- First aid certificate
- Referees certificate/qualification

- Outgoing and confident
- Strong communication skills and commitment to working in a team environment
- Reliable and punctual
- Enthusiastic with a positive attitude
