If you want to make a difference to the lives of our tamariki and whanau, enjoy engaging with communities, have existing networks with iwi and community organisations, take a collaborative approach and like to work on your own and as part of a team, then this role is for you.
As a visible role within the community, you will actively engage and collaborate with local iwi, service providers, community groups, and agencies to ensure accurate information is being communicated to families and the court where applicable, as well as understanding the availability and suitability of their services and resources.
A key aspect of the Kaiarahi role will be relationship building between these communities and the Justice system, bringing your knowledge of the Family Court and Judicial Services processes to the conversation to work with participants and the court to facilitate access to justice.
While this position is based in the Palmerston North District Court, you will also be required to travel in and out of the community on a regular basis. This is not your standard 9-5 role, and from time to time you will need to be able to work weekends and outside normal work hours, to meet the needs of our communities. Travel across your region will also be required to ensure all communities across Aotearoa are receiving consistent, quality support.
He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience
We are looking for people who reflect the community we are serving in and who can effectively assist Te Tāhū o te Ture in honouring our commitment to the people of Aotearoa. Your experience working with community groups and a wide range of socio-economic family situations is important to successfully implementing this new service. A full driver's licence is also required.
This position is operating at a community leadership level, so the ability to be self-managed and work both independently and with your regional team is key. We are also looking for someone who has the ability work fairly independently as well as part of a team, and brings in a good level of creativity and innovation to our space.
**Key skills and experience include**:
- Excellent relationship management skills
- A high level of comfort working with Whanau, Hapu and Iwi
- Have an understanding and appreciation of cultural issues and concerns in particular Tikanga Maori
- Technical knowledge and experience in Family and District Courts would be highly advantageous
- The ability to understand and communicate complex documents, including legislation, financial, numerical, and business information.

The Lower North Region Kaiarahi team consists of 13 Kaiarahi, based from Gisborne to New Plymouth down to Wellington and all those in-between. This position is based within the Palmerston North District Court team Kaiarahi, where you will have a close relationship with the Lower North Region Kaiārahi Team - teamwork and communication is a vital part of our team. The team work incredibly closely as a unit in our communities - being a bridge between them and our Judicial System.

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The full band of this role is $81,128 - $112,887. The likely appointing salary for this role will be between $81,128 and $93,832 based on skills and experience
