The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.
We have the opportunity available to join our Community & Whānau Wellbeing team which forms part of our wider Te Ikaroa / Central regional team in a permanent, full-time role as a Kaitakawaenga.
Kaitakawaenga are highly skilled practitioners with a unique perspective of the community and an ability to connect with whānau experiencing barriers to accessing health services. The primary purpose of the role is to be responsible for the delivery of He Oranga Mate Waikawa, a gout treatment and prevention programme designed to meet the needs of tāne Māori in Hawke's Bay suffering from gout. Kaitakawaenga will support and advocate for clinical interventions based on need, providing a greater scope for service and engagement in Te Matau a Maui, Hawkes Bay.
**Mōu | About you**
You are an experienced Kaitakawaenga able to provide kaupapa Māori perspectives. You will be experienced in the use of prevention and health promotion strategies to improve equity in the health system. You have experience engaging with whānau, pharmacy and general practices to support Tāne Māori with gout to achieve sustained self-management of their condition. You are skilled in developing relationships, networks and partnerships with Hawke's Bay communities and groups to improve education, support and treatment for Tāne Māori experiencing gout.
**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- NCEA Level 2 (or equivalent) and/or Community Support, Health Promotion Certificate or Diploma or equivalent experience
- Current full New Zealand drivers licence
- Proven experience using Patient Management Systems such as ECA and Clinical Portal
- Experience working in the New Zealand health sector and with whānau who suffer with gout
- Able to facilitate group discussions at a high level with excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience in outreach work in the community, at clinics and in an office environment
- Knowledge and practice of tikanga Māori
- Ability to use Microsoft programmes
- Has an understanding of Te Reo Māori and Tikanga
