Cloud Platforms Senior Engineer

The Senior Engineer - Storage role is the technology and domain specialist in their area, ensuring technical requirements can be delivered within the CCL Cloud Platform. The Senior Engineer - Storage is primarily responsible for the object storage, file storage and block storage platforms as well as cover oncall for the entire storage portfolio.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Engineer - Storage is responsible for ensuring the effective operation of CCL's storage platforms and services, including:

- Provide SME technical design capabilities to stakeholders, solution designers, engineers and customers for storage solutions.
- Prepare and present technical design and as-built documentation for storage solutions to the appropriate forums.
- Contributing to project teams for design and implementation of new storage systems, designing/building within the documented parameters, implementing, and producing As-Built documentation.
- Design, lead and champion pro-active monitoring of the environments to ensure proactive resolution of problems, incidents and concerns, before they are service impacting.
- Provide consulting services when required to your team and other parts of the business, to provide expert SME design, support, advice and skills.
- Provide support for all other storage platforms & services that include file storage, block storage and san fabric.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, understanding their implications and advantages to both CCL and its customers.
- Be part of the 24*7 oncall roster for storage services following CCL's oncall policies.
- Create, follow and champion policies, procedures and standards.
- Participates in and encourages knowledge transfer and mentoring, sharing information to enable peers to be cross-skilled.
- Analyse and advise on impact of changes in technology. ensuring operational best practises are adopted and followed meeting all SLA targets
- Ensuring that the balance between operational efficiency and compliance is met driving forward delivery of the IaaS strategy and other key business initiatives
- Adhere to organisational change and compliance practices, and ensure standards are complied with.
- Ensure that automation is at the heart of delivery.
- Design self-service capability for stakeholders wherever possible.
- Document all SOPs as required and update the processes in CCL's tool of choice.
- Adhere to DevOps culture where possible in the form of working and contribute towards automation of tasks and working closely with peers of other disciplines.
- Understand DevOps methodology, and how to interact with peers of other disciplines
- Be willing to adapt to areas that are outside your current skillset.
- Have and develop a broader knowledge than focussing purely on your area of expertise.

- Industry recognised advanced certification within area of expertise.
- ITIL foundation certificate.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- At least 12 years' experience within your field of expertise in a large, complex environment
- At least 7 years' experience working in an MSP
- Excellent specialist knowledge, including upgrades, installation and configuration.
- Networking Fundamentals - IPv4/v6 Subnetting, Routing & Firewalls.
- Advanced scripting and programming abilities.
- Deep experience and understanding of core storage hardware platforms.
- Excellent and thorough knowledge of Architecture of systems within HCP and Cloudian, including an understanding of various technologies and related issues outside of your area of expertise.
