We have an exciting opportunity to join our Communications and Engagement Delivery team as an Advisor, Communications and Engagement.

He Pou a Rangi | Climate Change Commission is an independent Crown entity that drives climate action in Aotearoa New Zealand. We provide independent, impartial advice to the Government on both mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, and we monitor and review the Government's progress towards its emissions reduction and adaptation goals.
Since establishing in December 2019, we have released advice on the New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme, agricultural emissions pricing, the foundational Inaia tonu nei: a low emissions future, which included advice on the country's first three emissions budgets and the first emissions reduction plan.

Te Tūranga | The role
This role provides an excellent opportunity for a Communications and Engagement Advisor or Coordinator looking to take that next step in their communications career.
The Advisor, Communications and Engagement is part of the Communications and Engagement Delivery team, which supports end-to-end delivery of the Commission's communications and engagement activities.
You will be an all-rounder who is able to turn your hand to a range of communications and engagement work - whether that is pulling together presentations, writing speeches, articles and media releases, running logistics for engagement events, helping with media enquiries or communications planning. This is a busy and varied role.
Ngā herenga | The role will involve
- Providing best practice communications stakeholder and engagement advice and support to the Commission
- Ensuring Commission staff feel well-supported around communications and engagement advice and support managers and staff with internal communications activities.
- Supports the end-to-end delivery of the Commission's communications and engagement activities, including in relation to statutory deliverables and accountability products and processes.
- Product design and publication in line with the Commission's brand and visual identity.
- As appropriate, deliver stakeholder and engagement communications plans and advice that map relevant stakeholders, communications activities, audiences, channels, timelines and key messages to support Commission initiatives.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including building relationships with the Senior Leadership Team, managers and teammates across the Commission.
- Embedding te ao Māori (te reo Māori, tikanga, kawa, Te Tiriti o Waitangi) into the way we do things at the Commission and demonstrating that cultural responsiveness is valued, understood, and applied within the Commission.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a team player who enjoys new approaches and building strong relationships. In addition, you will:
- Have a relevant tertiary qualification and or equivalent work experience in communications, public relations, or journalism - experience working in government would be an advantage.
- Have experience creating and delivering communications and engagement material and experience using a range of communications and engagement methods.
- Be willing to give things anything a go and take a proactive approach to your work.
- Be creative, innovative and solution focused.
- Have well developed communication skills and be comfortable explaining complex issues clearly and simply to a broad range of audiences.
- Bring an understanding of the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, an appreciation for the importance of Te Ao Māori and experience engaging with iwi/Māori

This role is Wellington based. The full salary range for this role is between $74,350 and $111,524, we expect the successful applicants starting salary to be in the lower two thirds of this range.
