Nau mai kia tau mai...
Te Aka Whai Ora is a connection to the Māori ancestral world and a firm vision towards a healthy future for all.
- Te Aka speaks to the endeavour to seek ancestral knowledge.
- Whai Ora is to pursue health
In the pūrakau (ancient legend), when Tāwhaki ascended into heaven to attain the three baskets of knowledge, he also collected two mauri stones named ‘Hōkai nuku' and ‘Hōkai rangi'. These stones were seen as supporting the three baskets of knowledge, with one having the ability to look back into the past, while the other provided a vision into the future.
Te Aka Whai Ora and all its communities, whānau, and health providers are likened to Tāwhaki in seeking out ora or health and wellbeing. As we navigate through our initial years of work, together with our partner Te Whatu Ora - Health NZ we represent a new and exciting future for health where we can achieve better health outcomes and wellbeing for all our people - whakahiko i te oranga whānau
