Our Portfolio Management team is the one stop shop for all things related to delivering and governing change at MBIE. We support all of MBIE to effectively lead projects, establish standards, lift capability and provide a community of best practice with the focus being on:
- Oversight of approved projects including allocation of resourcing and oversight of stakeholder engagement frameworks, project performance, project and portfolio reporting, pipeline planning, risk and issue management.
- Improvement focus including project management standards and practices, development of project management capability, risk, issue, benefits tracking and dependency management and undertaking post project reviews with a view to continuous improvement.

**Tēnei tūranga - About the role**:
Working alongside the Head of Portfolio Management, the Principal Assurance Advisor is an integral role responsible for:
- Developing and continuously improving project, programme and portfolio assurance standards and practices
- Leading the assurance activity within MBIE’s portfolio of change projects and providing consolidated reporting for governance bodies
- Completing assurance reviews and fieldwork on workstreams, projects and programmes as well as liaising with external assurance providers when required for IQA and TQA work
- Monitoring and advising the three lines of defence assurance activity so that it is carried out according to the Assurance Plan
- Playing a leadership role in supporting the delivery of good practice project, programme and portfolio risk management
- Ensuring scope of those performing 3rd line of defence activities aligns with the plan, escalate any gaps or risks to management and adjust plan accordingly (capturing scope overlaps) or raise additional risks (for scope gaps). Follow escalation processes as required
- Managing GCDO Assurance process as required including Go Live readiness assessments and any other Major ICT enablers/releases
- Internal Assurance reporting to Portfolio Management, including dashboard of assurance recommendations progress, process strength/health and maturity assessments, monitoring and review of the delivery of quality products and services in lines with the requirements of the project
- Conducting quality assurance investigations of non-conforming processes, including underlying causes and developing and coordinating recommended corrective actions
- Ensuring assurance records and information are consistently collated and maintained on a regular basis and records are kept in an appropriate repository
- Proactively contribute to the optimisation of assurance and reporting practice, and assistance in the refinement of the portfolio management processes
- Coaching and mentoring team members and the MBIE project management community in good practice project and programme assurance activities
Ngā pukenga me ngā wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and experience required:
- 5+ years’ experience in project management roles in structured project delivery environments in both the public and private sectors
- Expert knowledge and wide experience across project management/assurance disciplines with a good understanding of contemporary best practice principles
- Experience in delivery of assurance plan outputs to agreed quality measures
- Experience / management of large public sector projects with central monitoring
- Relevant project, programme and portfolio qualifications (e.g. knowledge and qualifications in some of PMI, PRINCE2, MSP, MoP, Praxis, Agile, Management of Risk)
- Excellent communication, self-management and interpersonal skills
- Confident and articulate verbal presentation skills
- A very high standard of written English
- A team player, willing to contribute as necessary to deliver project outcomes of a high standard and to drive the increasing maturity of MBIE’s delivery functions
