Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Cyber Security Integration Engineer. This role represents an interesting, challenging and rewarding opportunity to play a vital role in the Cybersecurity team by leveraging your expertise in infrastructure and security to strengthen the University's overall security posture. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate on transformative initiatives that include identity management, server hardening, cloud-based security solutions, and beyond. You’ll be at the forefront of implementing cutting-edge technologies and strategies to protect critical systems and ensure seamless integration across infrastructure and cybersecurity.
Key responsibilities:
- Deploy agreed mitigations for the security issues detected by the 2024 penetration test.
- Setting up and optimize Microsoft Sentinel to enhance threat detection and response.
- Creating and manage our detections and responses rules.
- Strengthen Active Directory, servers, and other critical systems against vulnerabilities.
- Proactively improve the security score in Microsoft Defender by implementing best practices.
- Configure websites within Web Application Firewalls (WAF) to protect against cyber threats.
- Implement the Automated Certificate Management Environment (ACME) protocol for streamlined certificate lifecycle management.

You will be a motivated, customer-focused individual who will play a vital role in the Cybersecurity team by leveraging your expertise in infrastructure and security to strengthen the University's overall security posture.
Key requirements:
- Demonstratable experience in a Cybersecurity related role preferably within medium to large IT organisations.
- Security system design experience in medium to large business environments.
- Proven ability to liaise effectively and professionally with clients and stakeholders.
- Proven ability to establish policies and procedures and create appropriate documentation.
- A solid understanding of networks, firewalls, proxies, SIEM, Cloud, Endpoint controls, DLP concepts and technologies.
- Experience & expertise with Fortinet, Cisco, Microsoft, Azure and SIEM products.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of Operating Systems, Networking, Applications and
- enterprise services
- Exposure to Security Orchestration and Automation, Threat Intelligence or Threat Hunting
- The ability to work under pressure and think on your feet to solve problems.
