Experienced Straddle Drivers

We are looking to build our pool of experienced straddle drivers in Tauranga and seek experienced Straddle Drivers with a minimum full Class 2 licence. Our straddle drivers operate straddle carriers that stack and move shipping containers at the Sulphur Point Container Terminal.

Starting rate of pay $28.00 per hour up to $36.00 when fully competent.

Contribution to relocation expenses for the right applicants.

These are permanent positions with a minimum hours guarantee. Applicants must be flexible with their availability as this operation runs 24/7 with shifts generally between 6-12 hours long. Due to the variabilities of shipping schedules the hours are not always predictable.

To be a straddle driver you need to have a calm aptitude and be comfortable working on your own. Your office is a small cab suspended 11 meters above the ground where you have to climb up and down a ladder to take your breaks and your only form of communication is via radio.

Essential requirements for the position are:
Proven heavy machinery driving experience

Comfortable working at heights

Flexibility and reliability

Good communication skills

Time management skills and ability to work unsupervised

Ability to meet deadlines

Willingness to follow standard operating procedures

Strict adherence to all health and safety procedures

Full Class 2 driver licence
