Icarus was the #1 Worldwide Top Selling PC game on Steam when it launched in December 2021. We are growing our team to keep expanding the Icarus’ world.

We are looking for Game Designers keen to work on a live game, adding new content and missions to a complex systems-driven sandbox game.

RocketWerkz is an ambitious studio based on Auckland’s waterfront (but with flexible working) founded by Dean Hall, creator of hit survival game DayZ. We are independently-run but have the backing of one of the world's largest games companies.

**What you'll be doing**:

- Design items, talents, missions
- Balance all aspects of the game economy and difficulty curve
- Ensure player progress is rewarding, exciting, fair and satisfying
- Constantly seek player feedback and interpret it wisely with action-oriented recommendations
- Communicate how game features and constraints create particular player experiences
- Help manage and respond to playtesting sessions

**About you**:

- 3+ years game design or relevent game development experience
- A fantastic portfolio of games you've contributed to
- Understanding of open world/survival games.
- Experience with Jira and Confluence (or similar project management tools)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

**Pluses**
- Experience with Unreal Engine 4
- A love of spreadsheets and wikis and delighting players
- Experience with game analytics and a track record of iterating on live games
- New Zealand visa or right-to-work

The position is full time and permanent. We offer both flexible and remote working opportunities, but have a strong preference for people who can be regular visitors to our Auckland office as teamwork and creative brainstorming are important for this role.

At RocketWerkz, an Intermediate Game Designer with 3-5 years experience typically has a salary of $70-$90,000 plus Kiwisaver and other benefits. Applications from more experienced game designers are also welcome.
