Christchurch Hospital is an accredited centre with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia (NSA) for advanced training in Neurosurgery. Christchurch Hospital is the major centre for the South Island Neurosurgical Service (SINS) and the second largest unit in New Zealand. We currently work collaboratively with the unit at Dunedin Hospital to provide services to the South Island Region.

Subspecialty groups include Paediatric Neurosurgery, Neurovascular Surgery including Endovascular Neurosurgery, Cranial Base Neurosurgery and Neuromodulation. We have the only interventional neuroradiology service in the South Island of New Zealand.

We are seeking a Neurosurgeon to join our team on a full-time permanent basis.

Your responsibilities will include outpatient clinics, as well as inpatient and acute/afterhours service on a rostered basis. Outpatient clinics are primarily general neurosurgery but there is an opportunity to develop subspecialty clinics with the agreement of the Clinical Director. All service commitments are based at the Christchurch Hospital campus in central Christchurch.

Subspecialty interest and/or post-fellowship training in neuro-oncology and endoscopic surgery including pituitary surgery preferred. Competence in neuro-oncology, vascular, trauma and spinal surgery including complex spinal surgery is needed for the scope of practice in SINS.

You will be encouraged to qualify for FRACS to assist with training and assessment of RACS Neurosurgery trainees at Christchurch Hospital.
