**Our Client**
Located on the fertile plains of Southland, the Gore District is a great community to set down roots and enjoy the amenities that deliver a quality lifestyle in a picturesque rural setting. The District covers an area of 1,250 km² with a population of approximately 12,800 with the two main centres being Gore and Mataura, with smaller settlements at Pukerau, Waikaka, Mandeville and Waimumu.
**The Role**
Due to the recent resignation of its long-standing Chief Executive, the Council is looking for a future-focused leader who will work in partnership to develop and deliver its strategic vision and values for the District.
The Chief Executive will be responsible for ensuring the effective management of all Council activities and the achievement of goals and objectives consistent with its vision, values, policies, and resolutions.
**Your Experience**
**To succeed **in this role, you will be a proven leader with strong communication skills able to foster community engagement and promotion of the Council. You will work from a growth mindset and demonstrate exceptional leadership skills to provide stability and sound advice while fostering an existing strong team culture across the organisation.
You will have strong commercial and financial leadership capability, ideally with previous or related local government exposure, to ensure the Council operates efficiently and responsibly within the Long-Term Plan.
**About the Region**
The Gore District, nestled under the Hokonui Hills in Murihiku, Southland, epitomises lifestyle convenience. The District’s economy is agriculturally based. It is home to large agri-businesses and many small businesses supporting the rural sector.
Everything in Gore is no more than a 10-minute drive, including health services, a hospital, an 18-hole golf course, a short-course Olympic-sized ice-skating rink, modern aquatic centre, and an internationally renowned art gallery.
There are four primary schools, two high schools and outstanding tertiary education opportunities at nearby Otago University and Southern Institute of Technology.
There has been significant investment in the community in recent years. The Council opened a new community centre and library earlier this year, which compliment the new modern, light offices staff moved into just over three years ago.
Gore is on the doorstep of some of New Zealand's most spectacular locations, including Fiordland, Queenstown and Central Otago. Within two hours you can be hitting the slopes of Queenstown’s ski fields, sipping wine at award-winning wineries or enjoying the scenery on spectacular cycle trails. Two international airports - Dunedin and Queenstown - are only about 90 minutes away, and Invercargill airport just 45 minutes south.
