Auckland City, New Zealand Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland Full time

**Why work in Te Toka Tumai (Auckland) or North Shore?**
- Auckland City Hospital is centrally located in New Zealand’s largest city. It is our largest hospital with access to all subspecialties meaning a varied and interesting case mix combined with the opportunity to work and learn in a highly supportive training environment. Starship Hospital is located on the same campus and is New Zealand's leading specialist child health care service provider.
- North Shore has an array of beautiful white sandy beaches, and the hospital is built alongside a freshwater lake.
- Auckland’s highly diverse and multicultural population add vibrancy to the city with its energetic nightlife, bustling restaurant scene, international entertainment options alongside accessible opportunities to explore the great outdoors from west and east coast beaches to the bush-clad regional parks.

**Why train as an ICU Senior House Officer**:

- Allows an opportunity to gain exposure to the field of critical care, whilst being well supported by a welcoming and friendly team of specialists, registrars, nurses and allied health workers.
- Many RMO’s have rotated through all 3 units over the years and gone on to have successful careers in Intensive Care Medicine, inspired by their experience in the unit to continue in the field of critical care. This rotation could be the start of vocational ICU training and qualifies as foundation time towards that.
- DCCM,PICU and NSH are all highly regarded training ICUs with regular teaching sessions (including multidisciplinary simulation) as well as the opportunity to attend regional training events as part of the local ICU community
- Gain skills in assessing the critically ill, resuscitation, stabilisation, diagnostic evaluation, treatment of acute medical and surgical emergencies, procedural skills including intubation, mechanical ventilation and central venous line insertion, communication skills with both patients and their families as well as involvement in research and audit. All while well supported by the wider team.
- Regular Teaching sessions as well as the opportunity to attend Regional Events

**Eligibility and how to apply**:

- Required experience: Must have completed 24 months of House Officer rotations.
- Preferred: Some exposure to acute care and a strong interest in pursuing a career in critical care medicine in New Zealand, priority goes to New Zealand applicants.
