**About the Team**
The Intellectual Disability Service (IDS) is part of the Specialist Mental Health Services based at Wakari Hospital, high above Dunedin with stunning views of the city and ocean. The IDS comprises of three parts, Ward 10a - a 12 bed inpatient service, Helensburgh Cottage - a 4 bed inpatient rehabilitation unit and the Community Liaison Team. You will work alongside the multidisciplinary team comprising of Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Mental Health Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists and Psychiatrists.
**About You / About the Role**
To be an effective Occupational Therapist and to fit well into our dedicated team, you will have sound skills in occupational therapy assessment, treatment planning, implementation and evaluation, ideally from having worked in a Mental Health setting previously. But what will be most evident in your CV will be your client centred approach and your passion for working with people with an intellectual disability.
As an excellent communicator you will thrive on having the opportunity to build and develop relationships with a wide range of disciplines. You’ll be actively involved in individual and group therapy programmes and be responsible for ensuring appropriate activity programmes for our diverse client group. You will work alongside health professionals and ward staff including two activity assistants to deliver these programmes. To ensure the continued wellbeing of your clients through best practice, you’ll liaise extensively with fellow Occupational Therapists throughout SouthernDHB.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your clinical skills on a shift by shift basis. You will be working alongside patients in a complex environment to meet their identified needs in a multi-disciplinary setting. The emphasis is on the delivery of safe client focused care in an ever changing dynamic setting.
- To be considered, you must be registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of New Zealand and have a current annual practising certificate.
