Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga - The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) leads New Zealand's housing and urban development work programme.

Mō te tūnga | About the role
HUD's Māori Housing Unit - Te Kāhui Kāinga Ora - leads HUD's focus to boost housing and urban development outcomes for Māori, working closely with Te Puni Kōkiri and Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities. Te Kāhui Kāinga Ora is also engaging closely and regularly with whānau, hapū, iwi and Māori and with key stakeholders to support those who seek to progress developments and realise their aspirations with housing and urban development.
It is an exciting time to be working in Maori housing. Te Kāhui Kāinga Ora has recently launched a thirty year Strategy for Māori Housing - MAIHI Ka Ora, and a key part of the work will be:

- Helping implement key elements of the Strategy in partnership with Crown and non-Crown Iwi/Maori partners
- Proactively identify barriers to, and opportunities for, the improvement of housing policy and services for Māori

Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga is strongly committed to addressing the disparities that exist for Māori in relation to homelessness / housing, and in your role you will be responsible for:

- Partnering with the Policy Manager to drive the strategic policy agenda/setting direction for the team's policy work
- Providing policy advice and leading programmes of work and project teams on complex and sensitive areas
- Providing high quality primary policy advice, and also providing support to other teams providing primary policy advice (that is, you will also be providing second order advice)
- Effectively influencing through engagement and communication with senior stakeholders
- Enhancing the overall capability of the team through guiding and mentoring senior/ advisors in their day to day work

O wheako, ō pukenga | About you
You'll have an in-depth understanding of the current government context, policy agenda and priorities with the ability to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and strategic agility as the needs and priorities of the Minister and the Ministry change. A strategic and critical thinker with the ability to identify what is important for the policy area in the medium and long term, along with an ability to use policy project management processes to lead and manage projects, while effectively and flexibly navigate through standard policy advisory processes and Cabinet requirements. - Want to work to make a difference for Māori, through working on complex housing challenges
- Keen to work for a small, diverse team, dedicated to their work
- Like variety and are a hands-on person who likes to get things done
- Currently a Principal Policy Advisor or a Senior Policy Advisor with significant public policy experience, looking for a step up. You do not need to speak Te Reo to do the role

- We have a stepped remuneration framework where salary movement happens though defined step increases within a role salary band. Appointment to a step within the salary range will depend on the experience and skills the person brings to the role which will be better known following a recruitment process including an interview. The salary mid-point for this role is $151,273.
