**About this opportunity**
The role of the Health & Safety Manager is to provide tools, guidance, and oversight to lead the implementation of the group WHSE System. To enhance the culture that promotes wellbeing and resilience to ensure our people get home safe everyday and the organisation demonstrates compliance with its legal and ethical obligation to provide a safe workplace.
As a member of the Site Leadership Team, the position is primarily expected to coach our site leadership and their teams towards achieving a mindset and behaviors that get our people safely home each day.
The secondary objective is to provide connection between the Site and Group level activities to champion and monitor implementation of the Group WHSE System Policy, Procedures and tools, inspections and audits)
The position will also be responsible for providing oversight of critical incidents and supporting the Site with incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action closure.
In addition, monitoring and driving activities with external regulatory bodies (such as WorkSafe) and providing recommendations of continuous improvement for the Group WHSE System.
A key focus of the WHSE Manager is to ensure systems and process are in place that focus on risk management and risk mitigation.

The challenge of this role is to support the creation of an environment that:

- Puts people before the production, balancing the achievement of safety best practice with people’s needs.
- Develop training program to engage employees in the safety development journey,
- Encourages people to reflect on and change their assumptions and feelings about others, thus leading to different behaviour and actions.
- Encourages cross team cooperation while acknowledging individual needs; provides after hours support as required

Your skills and experience: *
To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

- H&S Qualification
- Working at height, confined Space entry, Traffic Management trained.
- Audit management to deliver successful audit outcomes
- Knowledge of NZ Health and Safety legislation and AS4024 Safety of machinery Guards,
- Understanding and experience with safety management systems ISO 4801/45001/14001 Able to manage relationships with WorkSafe, ACC and other external stakeholders
- An understanding of New Zealand legal systems, regulatory processes and relevant legislation
- Strong skills in hazard identification, risk management and incident investigation.
- Risk Management experience using best practice methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to relate to a variety of people
- Strong people influencing skills including communication, relationship building, motivational and staff development
- Professional & commercial knowledge and acumen
- Customer service focus
- Continuous improvement focus
