**About the Role**

An opportunity exists to join our MidCentral public health nursing team as a **Kaiāwhina**. The role also includes the opportunity to transition to a Public Health Nurse role in our team should you wish to train to become a registered nurse at a later date - however this is not mandatory for your successful appointment to this Kaiwhina role.

Kaiāwhina support and deliver programmes in an integrated way across the Child Health Team, ensuring whanau are empowered through promoting hauora and contributing to positive outcomes. They promote and protect the health and hauora of communities, with particular emphasis for Māori and other priority populations. This role is a permanent part time role based across the Midcentral district.

In this role you would work alongside Public Health Nurses and in partnership with tamariki, rangatahi and their whanau, school communities and early learning centres, Te Kohanga Reo, and collaborate with the multi-disciplinary team. The role requires a high level of competence and autonomy while working in education and community settings supporting clients tamariki, rangatahi and whanau with a range of needs with a particular focus on government priorities.

**About you**
- NCEA level 2 or equivalent undergraduate certificate or diploma, and a commitment to starting your journey and taking ownership of your learning and growth
- Current unendorsed full drivers licence
- An eye for detail, effective problem solving and a commitment for continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised with excellent organisation and time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work within a team, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated computer skills
- Experience using Patient Management Systems is also desirable
- Previous experience working in the health sector or school environment is desirable
- Previous experience working with children and young people is desirable
- Competency with te ao Māori, tikanga, and te reo Māori is desirable.
