Join us as R&D Mechanical Engineer for ABB Smart Power and you’ll get to work with cutting-edge power electronics products and technologies
- enabling safer and smarter electricity flow from substation to the point of consumption. We deliver products and systems designed to connect, protect and control electrical systems, ensuring reliability, efficiency and safety for equipment and personnel. Reporting to R&D Mechanical Team Leader, based out of Napier; New Zealand you will be responsible for mechanical design and prototyping of Power Electronics Products, as well as refining for volume manufacture, with high quality and reliability, meeting international standards, delighting our customers with innovation and performance.

**Your responsibilities**:

- Modelling and design of mechanical components and assemblies for power electronics products
- Developing test plans for designs
- Prototype builds
- Structural design for assembly, using Solid works (or equivalent)
- Creation of manufacturing data for parts and assemblies
- Living ABB’s core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business

**Your background**:

- Degree in Mechanical engineering
- Working with sheet metal, plastics, heatsinks, magnetics
- Experience of thermal design including the use of CFD would be desirable
- Experience of seismic design would also be of value
- Dealing with issues such as electrical isolation, thermals and sealing
- International standards for product safety (CE & UL)
- Innovative and curious. Keeping abreast of technology advances (technical press, conferences etc)
