Help deliver the aspirations of the local board and the community
- Thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment where your judgment makes a difference
- Join a supportive team with career progression
**He angitūtanga: The opportunity**
Auckland Council’s Governance & Engagement department is looking for a Local Board Advisor to join our team.
This role is an exciting opportunity to work with the Whau, Henderson-Massey and Waitākere Ranges local boards team. The role predominately supports the Waitākere Ranges Local Board and you'll be part of a team that plays a vital role in shaping local communities. You’ll be based at the Waitākere Ranges Local Board office and the Henderson-Massey Local Board office, with flexibility to work from home as part of our hybrid working model.
This is a critical role for decision-making which spans across all local government services, Council Controlled Organisations and local communities. You could expect to work on:
- Development and coordination of local board feedback related to regional strategies and plans
- Tailor strategic advice to progress more complex and challenging issues and projects
- Support the Local Area Manager and Senior Local Board Advisor with political guidance and governance advice
- Support local board meetings, workshops and agenda run-throughs
**He kōrero mōu: About you**
As a Local Board Advisor, you’ll be a trusted source of strategic advice and play a key role in influencing and supporting decision-making at the local level. You will be politically savvy, with the ability to build strong relationships with elected members, other local boards, council departments, and community stakeholders.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring experience from working within large, complex, and ideally politically sensitive environments. You’ll be comfortable navigating competing priorities, managing a high volume of work, and exercising sound judgment in a dynamic context.
While you’ll be part of a supportive and committed team, we’re looking for someone who is also self-motivated, proactive, and able to take initiative to work independently.
We are specifically looking for:
- A tertiary qualification in public policy, planning, public management, humanities, finance, law, or a related field - or equivalent industry experience
- Proven experience in governance, policy, or a closely related discipline
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise and manage workloads, oversee programme delivery, and balance competing demands
**Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer**
At Auckland Council, you will join a dynamic, supportive environment where your mahi (work) will directly impact the lives of over 1.7 million Aucklanders. We offer flexible working conditions, a focus on well-being, and a culture of continuous improvement.
We are proud to be recognised for our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. We are accredited by GenderTick, a signatory of the Pride Pledge. These commitments reflect our ongoing efforts to create a workplace where all staff feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. Together, we can create a Tāmaki Makaurau we can all be proud of.
