This is an exciting time for Te Arawhiti - the Office for Māori Crown Relations. We're about to enter a new phase for the organisation, taking on a new name, with a strengthened focus on completing historical Treaty settlements and supporting Takutai Moana determinations.

Following Government's decisions last year to transfer the Māori Crown Relations portfolio to Te Puni Kōkiri, we've redesigned Te Arawhiti so it's ready to take on new challenges, while maintaining much of the unique mahi that makes the culture of our organisation so special. At Te Arawhiti you'll be exposed daily to tikanga Māori, supported and encouraged to develop skills and an understanding of te ao Māori, and experience the personal connections and privilege of resolving historical Treaty claims and supporting the recognition of customary Takutai Moana rights.

**Te Haeata/The Opportunity**

The role of Principal Advisor, Official Correspondence reports directly to the Manager, Office of the Chief Executive. The Principal Advisor will:

- Ensure the timely, accurate and effective management of ministerial correspondence, parliamentary questions and official information with high-quality responses that comply with relevant legislation and guidelines, drawing on support and expertise as required from the Ministry of Justice.
- Manage and oversee the official correspondence function within Te Arawhiti to ensure that work outputs are sound, consistent and robust to continue to comply within Ministry of Justice policy and relevant legislation.
- Liaise with the Te Arawhiti Office of the Chief Executive to ensure quality and consistency of correspondence and effective communication.
- Liaise with the Official Correspondence team of Ministry of Justice to ensure they provide sufficient support and meet work deadlines when required.

This role is for a fixed term until 28 October 2025 to work within the Te Arawhiti team as we renegotiate our shared services agreement with the Ministry of Justice and agree the level of support and capability provided inhouse for this function within the agreement.

Te Arawhiti is a departmental agency of Te Tāhū o te Ture - the Ministry of Justice. Our mahi sees the Crown addressing historical breaches of, and obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi, we work to restore the Crown's relationship with Māori and help recognise Māori customary rights under Takutai Moana legislation.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $110,766 and $154,680 based on skills and experience.
