Programming Intern

The Intern will assist the South Pacific Director in organising, leading and documenting field activities within Scientist Led-Expeditions, Educational Outreach & Citizen Science Programmes, which involves engaging with students, educators, and the yachting community. The Intern will help to organise educational & citizen science programs as well as develop new content for community engagement and educational outreach.
This internship has been created to aid with South Pacific programme management. The intern will be expected to help prepare for program related activities on site and work at events including events that sometimes take place on the weekends.
Internship Responsibilities:
- Manage relationships with participants and scientists for various citizen science projects and scientist led expeditions.
- Analyze and interpret data from oceanographic projects.
- Collect data for analysis from field work
- Help promote citizen science projects to the yachting community and general public.
- Research and provide pertinent insight concerning current marine science and environmental issues
- Curate content and write copy for purposes of uploading information to our website as well as social media platforms.
- Participate in programming including local day trips, educational outreach, citizen scientist
programme and community outreach and events.
- Support classroom lessons, where the SeaKeepers Education Team goes into schools or other educational spaces to facilitate marine conservation activities.
- Represent the organisation and interact professionally with volunteers as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent grammatical and spelling skills
- Excellent skills in preparing business correspondence with meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team and help as/when needed
- Excellent schedule management skills
- Proficiency in office machines and office software including MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) relational database and internet navigation software.
- Ability to swim as well as comfort in and around boats of all sizes
- Positive attitude and comfort in facilitating (with training) introductory-level science activities
*Much of our programming takes place on boats or near the water so knowledge of boating and boat safety is preferred. A background in marine science desirable but not necessary.
**Job Type**: Part-time
Pay: $28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 16 - 20 per week
