Are you an innovative and proactive Mental Health Clinician, experienced in providing brief interventions, who wants to work in a supported programme that works within ED, Kaitaia Hospital, and supports the wellbeing of whanau on a daily basis?

We are looking for an experienced clinician to provide behavioural health services within the Emergency Department setting working alongside the existing Health Coach.

The position will work as an integrated member of the ED team and provide immediately accessible, evidence-based brief interventions to individuals and their families to assist in improving their emotional health, physical health and overall wellbeing. You will also be working alongside a Health Coach to deliver evidence-based group programmes, provide consultation, education and advice to the members of the ED team and support local population health by developing intervention pathways.

This role is based on the Behavioural Health Consultancy (BHC) model, which has been piloted and developed for the New Zealand setting. As a Health Improvement Practitioner, you will be supported by specialist training, which has been specifically developed to support the Healthcare Teams working in the Te Tumu Waiora model. We have practitioners working within general practice and are looking to support the Kaitaia region more fully by having a HIP in the ED. Our HIP’s also provide peer support to each other, interact regularly through team meetings and Line Manager support.

**We are seeking someone who has**:

- A flexible adaptable approach to a new way of working
- A current New Zealand registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (HPCA) and full registration with your professional association e.g., Psychology, Psychotherapy, Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work, or a full member of NZ Association of Counsellors and accredited by the NZAC to work within the mental health and addictions services scope of practice.
- Professional experience in their registered field, minimum _2 years_
- Clinical experience working in mental health and addiction environments (primary or secondary) providing evidence-based brief interventions such as ACT, FACT or CBT.
- A current unencumbered full NZ driver’s licence
- Excellent computer and literacy skills including MS Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Be fully vaccinated for COVID

Ideally you will have local knowledge, are or have been part of the Kaitaia and wider community, and will have a sound understanding of Tikanga Māori, and fluency in Te Reo Māori.

You must have the right to work in NZ and/or have a current NZ work visa.

The successful applicant will be required to attend training for this role unless already an endorsed HIP.
