**General Responsibilities**:
- The cook is responsible for preparing lunch, and/or the evening meal at St Francis Retreat Centre, and assisting with the food service in the Dining Room
- In carrying out these responsibilities the cook will at all times be conscious of the Mission Statement of the Retreat Centre.
**Kitchen**:
- Working together to plan the menu and required food stock
- Preparing food at lunch or dinner time for the catering numbers for the day, according to the typical menu:
- Lunch - Soup; two or more salads; hot dish; scones, muffins, etc
- Evening - Main course; three sides; dessert etc.
- Catering for special diets, vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergies as required.
- Keeping the kitchen clean and tidy and cleaning the kitchen at the end of each shift
- Safely covering and storing food after meals
- Thoroughly wipe down all kitchen surfaces after meals.
- Ensuring food and beverage containers in the kitchenette are kept fully stocked and clean
- Assisting in the prompt and safe storage of all food deliveries.
- Advising of any stock shortages or damages
**Dining Room**:
- Clearing the dining room after meals and resetting for the next service.
- Vacuuming the dining room when required
- Resetting the dining room after meal service
- Setting up the dining room for meal service
- Answering any guest’s inquiries where possible, or directing guests to the duty liaison person
**Cleaning**:
- Assisting with general cleaning duties when requested
- Assisting with housekeeping duties when requested
**Accountability**:
- The cook reports to the Head Chef of the Retreat Centre, and in their absence to the most senior staff member on duty.
**Functional Relationships**:
- The cook collaborates fully with all other staff, volunteers, and the resident Franciscan Community in carrying out their responsibilities.
**Requirements**:
- Sound knowledge of cooking methods and techniques.
- The ability to work in a team.
- Effective communication skills.
