**Some role responsibilities would include**:
l Structural design of timber, steel, concrete structures for residential and commercial buildings in compliance with New Zealand Building Act and Building codes
l Analysing structural systems and dynamic behaviours, including gravity and lateral resisting systems to withstand gravity, wind and seismic actions
l Designing structures to ensure they do not collapse and designing structural elements to ensure they do not fail in compression, tension, bending, shear and twisting for ultimate limit state
l Designing retaining walls, shallow foundations and pile foundations based on geotechnical report and relevant information
l Designing structural elements to satisfy deflection and vibration requirements for serviceability limit state
l Preparing structural calculations, determining critical construction methodologies, suitable materials for durability and quality standards, drafting and interpreting structural specifications and design features reports
l Assessing historical buildings for seismic strengthening work and preparing IEP reports for seismic assessment
l Preparation of sketches and technical reports
l Liaising with clients and architects to realise the optimal design outcomes
l Processing ISO checklists required to ensure quality control, including preparing internal design checklists, reviewing structural drawings drawn by draftsperson, etc
l Follow construction safety guidelines
l Completing regulatory documents concerning safety issues
l Collaborate with contractors and project managers
l Assist management team
l Abiding by the LW Employee Handbook
**Preferred Skills and Experience**:
- Bachelor of Engineering or higher qualification or equivalent; OR
- At least five years of relevant work experience
- Fundamental understanding of NZ design standards (including seismic), general building structure design and construction techniques.
- Experience with computational software such as VBA programming, SpaceGass, Microstran, and Etabs
- High level of attention to detail
- Capability to perform planning, concept and detailed design
