We have an exciting opportunities for a Mental Health Support Worker to join our multidisciplinary inpatient team.
You will be joining an established team dedicated to improving health outcomes for our tangata whaiora and whānau. You will be working under the delegation of a Registered Nurse and working with individual tangata whaiora to support them in activities of daily living, assist with observations to support our assessment processes and ensure routine clinical and non-clinical tasks are completed as required on a day to day basis. You will be flexible and willing to work collaboratively as part of a team to provide quality care and assessment to meet identified client needs. These positions are rostered with rotating shifts.
Responsibilities and duties of this role include:
- assistance, guidance and support to ensure our tangata whaiora are able to achieve optimal independence in relation to activities of daily living
- promoting and supporting participation and engagement in therapeutic, occupational and social activities to enhance well being
- assisting in the assessment of tangata whaiora needs and the mitigation of potential risk factors identified through the use of structured observation and feedback
- assisting and supporting the maintenance of the ward environment to provide for health and safety of tangata whaiora and staff
- contributing to service development, quality improvement and health and safety initiatives in the workplace
- ensuring continuity of care and best practices standards are applied
**Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team**
Mental Health Service Older Persons (MHSOP) provides specialist assessment, treatment and recovery focused interventions. We are primarily a community based service incorporating a 16 bed inpatient facility.
Our inpatient unit provides specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services for individuals with a wide range of mental health challenges. MHSOP primarily serves individuals presenting with recent onset functional mental health conditions over the age of 65 and/or dementia associated with significant behavioural and psychological symptoms (BPSD)
**Moū - About you**
- experience of providing care to older adults with mental health needs or an interest developing skills, experience in this speciality
- meet minimum training requirement having completed or in the process or completing National Certificate in Health & Wellbeing Support (Level 3) or equivalent
- demonstrate ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals
- be solution focused with excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
- excellent communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to engage people at all levels
