Timaru, New Zealand Te Whatu Ora Full time

Based in Timaru Hospital — support Health NZ teams across the South Canterbury region.
- Be a part of our Digital Services team - shaping the future of digital healthcare for all New Zealanders
- Permanent, full time role.

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations - from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

**About the Role**

As a Deskside Engineer, you will be the hands-on problem solver keeping Health NZ's digital workspaces running smoothly. You will deploy, configure, and maintain technology that supports hospital teams and health workers across Aotearoa — ensuring systems are reliable, secure, and ready when they're needed most. From troubleshooting day-to-day technical issues to implementing new solutions, you will play a vital role in ensuring seamless operations across our digital environment. Working closely with senior engineers and other technical specialists, you will have the opportunity to build your skills, contribute to service improvements, and make a real impact on the digital systems that support frontline healthcare delivery.

In addition, we are also looking for people to join our Digital Services on-call pool. This involves being part of a roster that provides after-hours support as required.

**About the Team/Service/ Location**

Our Digital Operations team sits at the heart of Health NZ's digital world — powering the systems that keep hospitals and health services across the country running smoothly. We're the team behind the technology that clinicians rely on every day, ensuring critical systems stay connected, secure, and reliable. But our impact goes far beyond the hospital walls — we're building the digital foundations that strengthen healthcare for communities across Aotearoa. By driving innovation, setting national standards, and investing in smarter, more resilient infrastructure, we're shaping the future of digital health in New Zealand — and you could be part of it.

This role is based in Timaru Hospital supporting the South Canterbury Region.

**About you**

You're a hands-on ICT professional who enjoys solving problems, supporting people, and keeping technology running seamlessly. You bring a solid foundation in IT operations and a genuine desire to grow your technical expertise in a fast-paced, meaningful environment.

**You will bring**:

- Experience deploying, maintaining, and supporting IT services in a technical environment
- A current New Zealand driver's licence
- At least 1 year of experience performing operational tasks, troubleshooting issues, and following technical standards and best practices
- Exposure to resolving technical problems, implementing solutions, and contributing to planning or deployment activities
- A proactive attitude and eagerness to learn, develop, and grow your technical skills
- Relevant technical certifications (preferred but not required) — ITIL or service management certifications are a plus

**Working for Health New Zealand**

**How to Apply**
