Whakarongorau aims to be there when face to face health and social services cannot, providing consistent, clinically supported access to services for those in need or when people are unable to access other options due to location, time of day, financial or cultural barriers.

We are seeking a dedicated individual who embodies the values of whanaungatanga and has a strong commitment to enhancing the wellbeing of tāngata whai ora through culturally grounded support. This exciting role is permanent and full time, also allowing you to work from the comfort of your home.
**Mōu ake - About you**
As a Kaiwhakatere (Navigator), you will serve as the initial point of contact for tāngata whai ora, building trust through whakawhanaungatanga and guiding them in understanding how Puāwaitanga integrates Te Ao Māori into its support services. This role is crucial in representing and assisting tāngata whai ora, ensuring they comprehend the cultural foundations of Puāwaitanga. You will process referrals, contact tāngata whai ora, confirm funding eligibility, manage inquiries, book and cancel sessions, and assist with clinician selection and tech issues.
Additionally, you will assess needs, direct tāngata whai ora to appropriate services, escalate safety concerns, troubleshoot portal issues, review caseloads for missed sessions, ensure accurate data entry, and provide administrative support to leadership to support efficient service delivery.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- ** Engagement**: welcome tāngata whai ora warmly, providing them with clear information about the support available and helping them decide if Puāwaitanga meets their needs
- ** Support**: guide tāngata whai ora through the enrolment process and their subsequent care package, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction
- ** Service Excellence**: contribute to creating a trusted and safe service environment that promotes whanaungatanga, mana manaaki, and rangatiratanga
- ** Cultural Commitment**: uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, demonstrating a commitment to improving the health status of Māori through partnership, participation, and protection
**Qualifications**:
**Preferred but not essential**
- Experience working in Mental Health and understanding of Mental Health Services
- Lived or professional experience of Te Ao Māori/Matauranga Māori
- Proven rapport building with the ability to show compassion and resilience
- Experience in an administrative/customer service position
**Ōu āheitanga ōu pūkenga hoki - Skills and competence**
- Ability to complete basic risk assessments and respond empathetically to tāngata whai ora seeking mental health support
- Can identify and navigate referrals to other services when appropriate, and determine effective follow-up steps for ongoing support
- Confident with technology, highly organised, and adaptable to new processes in a growing environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with cultural sensitivity and a commitment to equity for Māori and diverse populations
- Whakarongorau Aotearoa acknowledges Mana Māori and mātauranga Māori as a professional skill set
