Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
As the Programme Manager for the continuous improvement of the Public Health Knowledge and Surveillance System, you will play a pivotal role in leading and coordinating this key programme of work, ensuring seamless coordination across multiple projects.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to a programme of national significance, further developing the surveillance and knowledge system that supports us to better evidence and understand the health, aspirations, and needs of New Zealanders. Your leadership and management skills will be instrumental in supporting the priorities and objectives of Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui and Manatū Hauora. Collaboration will be key as you work in partnership with Te Aka Whai Ora, and closely with various stakeholders, both internally and externally, to drive the implementation of the programme and ensure its integrity and quality.
In this role, you will collaborate with stakeholders to develop the programme's workstreams, resources, and deliverables. You will also implement effective programme management tools and processes, providing guidance and support to Manatū Hauora, Te Aka Whai Ora, and other key external stakeholders involved in the initiative.
Your responsibilities will extend to; managing a programme team and project kaimahi, overseeing a technical design process, managing operational issues and risks, maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, and communicating effectively through diverse channels. By fostering collaborative and positive relationships, you will contribute to the advancement of Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui, Manatū Hauora, and the wider health sector.
Equity and meeting Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations will be at the forefront of your work, ensuring that all activities align with our commitment to these priorities. As the Programme Manager, you will also oversee dependencies between programmes, resolve issues, and implement corrective actions to ensure successful outcomes. Resource allocation and strategic alignment will be important aspects of your role as you work closely with Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui to deliver the strategy and its corresponding priorities.

Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- A Tertiary qualification in a public health or relevant field and/or equivalent experience in public health systems, surveillance, and/or intelligence
- An understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations, an understanding and experience of mātauranga Māori and tofa loloto is desirable
- Experience designing work programmes and project planning to ensure delivery of work on time, and within budget
- Advanced knowledge of programme and management methods including techniques for planning, monitoring, and controlling programmes
- Ability to work in complex environments and with a wide range of diverse stakeholders that are internal and external to Manatū Hauora and Te Aka Whai Ora
- Significant experience in strategic communications and engagement planning to ensure delivery of work on time, and within budget
- Strong written skills and an ability to take complex information and synthesise into key messages for relevant audiences
