Environment Southland is facing many challenges - and they are up for it

Improving water quality and supporting action on-the-ground are driving the innovative programmes already underway at the regional council. Working collaboratively with tangata whenua and stakeholders to ensure the region thrives for generations to come is the key objective.

The region is the second largest in New Zealand covering over 34,000 km². Half of the land area is public conservation land and farms occupy 85% of the remainder.

This appointment arises with the planned retirement of the long serving incumbent.

The key focus will be to continue to lead the development of a high performing team and culture which is focussed on delivering on Council’s objective to protect and enhance the environment for future generations.

The organisation has many diverse responsibilities and this requires a leader who can build strong external relationships aligned to mutual objectives, advocate for the organisation and effectively lead an executive team, very committed to the sustainable management of the region’s resources.

Your experience will be as a CE or a senior executive role with diverse responsibilities.

This will be complemented by a proven ability to build strong relationships, lead change within a complex sector and advocate for the region.
