Our team has an
equity focus in helping communities to identify and address their specific
health priorities, including but not limited to housing, mental wellbeing,
active transport, sexual health, nutrition, and smokefree. We work in various
settings such as kura/schools, churches, and workplaces to promote health and
wellbeing, reduce inequalities and work alongside focus populations to support
them in building on their strengths to address identified needs.
Ko wai koe | About You
In this role, you
**will be responsible for**:
- Taking
a community development approach to delivering culturally appropriate
health promotion, with a focus area
of youth and sexual health;
- Working
collaboratively with other relevant health providers and communities to
identify and address health priorities - including nationally as a part of
our role in a new National Public Health Service;
- Developing
and implementing health promotion strategies based on the identified
community needs and potentially spanning other determinants (e.g. social
isolation, culture & identity, arts & wellbeing, discrimination
& violence);
- Building
and maintaining trusted relationships with communities and external health
agencies, with an ability to work from a grassroots to international
level.
- Strengthening
community action to support the health and wellbeing aspirations of local
communities.Note that because
this role is based in a public health unit, the role - s usual responsibilities
may be suspended in part or in full in order to support our public health unit
to respond to the demands of COVID or other communicable disease outbreak (i.e.
Measles).
Your skills will
**include**:
- Health
promotion experience along with experience working with community
development is highly desirable;
- Experience
initiating and facilitating diverse groups and projects is highly
desirable;
- Comfort
and experience with independent groups
- Health
promotion or other relevant qualification is advantageous but not
essential;
- An
communities to promote health and wellbeing;
