Our Team
The Information Services team provides Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) with a modern technology environment that enables the organisation to leverage information and systems for better safety outcomes.
Leveraging technology and developing our digital assets to create, use and share high-quality data, information and insights to drive robust decision-making, better organisational agility and responsive Maritime NZ future thinking. We lead MNZs information, communications, technology services and systems, providing infrastructure and connectivity.
What we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer capable of taking ownership of the overall maintenance and support of Maritime NZ's data platforms working closely with our Research Analytics and Insights and Planning, Performance and Risk teams and our wider ICT team. You will have the opportunity to become the technical lead in the development of report-platform infrastructure, alongside building data systems and pipelines, developing and integrating data in platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, Azure Synapse ecosystem and/or ArcGIS. We are looking for an innovative technical leader keen to drive the development and implementation of a modern analytics platform for our organisation as we migrate to the cloud.
**Ideally you will bring**:
- Relevant tertiary qualification preferably at post graduate level or equivalent experience;
- At least 5+ years of database/data warehouse related experience;
- Experience in MSSQL database administration;
- Excellent knowledge of data warehousing methodologies, modelling principles, and working experience with toolsets SQL Server, SSIS, SSAS, AZURE is a must. Experience with Realtime Data analytics;
- Proven experience with technical requirements analysis, business process modelling/mapping, methodology development, and data modelling;
- Strong knowledge of BI reporting principles and methodologies;
- In-depth knowledge of on premise data stack SSIS, SSRS, SSAS and experience in migration of these platforms to azure;
- Microsoft Hyper-V Server and VM Management;
- Experience with Microsoft SQL SSRS reporting;
- Good understanding of cloud hosting privacy and security best practices;
- Familiarity with the Azure technology stack including Data Lake, Azure Data Bricks, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and ArcGIS would be an advantage;
- Strong team player and a willingness to coach and mentor others.
