Our busy Ophthalmology department provides high quality care to patients in the Auckland Region and offers a range of secondary and tertiary services primarily based at Greenlane Clinical Centre. We also provide services at various sites across the Auckland Region and our goal is to expand this. We are seeking a clinical lead to join our team in a fixed term or seconded position to support the expansion of theatre delivery. This role will be challenging and rewarding as we develop the service regionally and explore models of care to sustainably meet the needs of our patients and their whanau.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with clinical theatre experience and excellent communication skills to be integral in supporting the Ophthalmology service to model and deliver theatre expansion as part of the development for the regional service. You will thrive in an environment where collaboration and teamwork are highly valued.
**This is a fixed term or secondment, full time position (40 hours per week)**

**Nga Pūkenga Motuhake | Important Skills**
We are keen to hear from applicants with the following skills and experience:
- Knowledge on how to set up an Ophthalmology theatre to deliver cataract care including
- Understanding cataract set up & instruments required
- Ordering of instruments
- Management & movement of instruments across sites as needed
- Microscope management & care including movement across sites if needed.
- An understanding of implant requirements
- An understanding of the patient journey through theatre from pre-admission to recovery
- An understanding of training requirement of theatre nurses
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals
- Initiative and solution focused with excellent time management skills and the ability to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the proven ability to engage people at all levels
- Ability to share and demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills
- Excellent relationship building, and liaising with a multi-disciplinary groups
Moving forward as a regional service this role will model how future expansion could be delivered by creating a framework of governance and clinical oversight that can be replicated as part of the development for the regional ophthalmology service.
- It is the expectation of this role that a framework will be created to support the set up processes of future satellite theatres and procedure rooms for other sub-specialties within Ophthalmology (beyond cataract).
- There is an opportunity to refresh previous work completed to set up new centres and explore/review feasibility.
