You will act as part of a team to deliver a variety of tasks within the procurement lifecycle (plan, source, manage).

**Tasks will include but are not limited to**:

- Lead sourcing processes to engage suppliers;
- Establish new contracts and manage contract changes;
- Provide commercial and procurement advice;
- Promote an agile, flexible and creative customer-centric culture; and
- Practice a continuous improvement approach across lifecycle activities to provide innovative solutions and minimise risk.

You'll play a key role in contributing to improving the overall capability and effectiveness of the NZDF commercial function, which affects the capacity for NZDF to undertake military operations. What we do matters.

**Please note**: You can base yourself in either Wellington CBD or Trentham, with up to two days a week at home.

**Ideal experience includes the following**:

- Leading sourcing processes and managing contracts;
- A sound understanding of the end-to-end procurement lifecycle process, the Government Procurement Rules and best practice procurement behaviour; and
- Work within the public sector.

Your attitude and “soft skills” are more important to us than technical skills and government procurement experience.

Defence Commercial Services (DCS) is a unit within the wider Joint Defence Services (JDS) Portfolio. JDS enables Defence Force operations by synchronising key pan-NZDF enabling functions.
We have three roles available in DCS - one in the Enabling team and two in the Capability/Logistics (CapLog) team.
The DCS CapLog team provide commercial support and advice to the Capability and Logistics branches of NZDF, working across all three services: Airforce, Army and Navy. Capability Branch brings new and improved equipment and services into NZDF; Logistics Branch ensures equipment and services function effectively while in use. One week you could be leading sourcing for dive gear, the next you could be reviewing a support contract for our new Poseidon aircraft or engaging with overseas suppliers.
The DCS Enabling team provides commercial support and advice to a wide range of internal stakeholders including NZDF Health, Corporate Services, Veterans' Affairs, and Defence College. We have undertaken tenders (and manage the resulting contracts) for the purchase of gym equipment, X-Ray machines, Radiology Services, Document Destruction Services, Water Coolers, Board Member Agreements, Internal and External House Cleaning for Veterans, Training contracts etc. No two pieces of work are the same - offering great variety in your work.
