Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
We are planning to expand our department and retirements of senior surgeons are likely. While in a transition phase we require an increase in our General Surgeon numbers.
- Subspecialty expertise in colorectal conditions. They will contribute to the general surgery service, trauma and general acutes and will also support an existing team of experienced surgeons to grow and develop this service for our patients. Skills in both open and laparoscopic surgery are essential. We manage patients with benign and malignant conditions and have a regular local colorectal MDM you could contribute to. Proficiency in colonoscopy would be preferred.
- Subspecialty expertise in Upper GI conditions. They will contribute to the general surgery service, trauma and general acutes and will also support an existing team of experienced surgeons to grow and develop this service for our patients. Skills in both open and laparoscopic surgery are essential. We manage patients with benign and malignant conditions and have support from Wellington OG and HPB surgeons. Proficiency in gastroscopy would be preferred.
- Subspecialty expertise in Endocrine and/or breast conditions. They will contribute to the general surgery service, trauma and general acutes and will also support an existing team of experienced surgeons to grow and develop this service for our patients. Skills in both open and laparoscopic surgery are essential. We manage patients with benign and malignant conditions and have regular breast MDM you could contribute to, as well as a regional endocrine MDM.Mō tō mātou rōpū - About our team

You will be part of a dynamic and innovative department with a strong focus on ongoing quality improvement and positive relationships with clinical colleagues. Collaboration and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care is integral to our service delivery here at Hutt. We have other medical staff consisting of a Fellow, Specialist General Surgery Trainees, junior registrars and house surgeons.

Moū - About you
- Vocationally registered in General Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- FRACS or equivalent qualification and be able to register for with the MCNZ
- Able to work in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team
- Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
- Relevant experience and training
